The Brooklyn Taco Experiment

On the heels of the Brooklyn Chocolate Experiment, Nick and Theo bring us the Brooklyn Taco Experiment this Sunday at 1 pm at none other than The Bell House in Gowanus.

Alas, I will not be there to defend my titles, as I will be in Baltimore, but for those of you who are around, you should either enter or attend (note: advance tickets are sold out, not a surprise. There will be a limited number of tickets available at the door but you should get there early – like around noon).

The guys have really upped the ante on this one – grand prize winner gets two RT tickets to anywhere in Mexico courtesy of Aeromexico and 1st place wins $150 cash + private tour with Cesar Fuentes, introduction to Red Hook taco vendors and free lunch with 3 friends at the Red Hook Tacos stands.  I really hope that whoever wins makes a pork-free taco (pork is the easy road – a good chef doesn’t have to rely on it) and then takes a trip to Oaxaca and takes a ton of cooking classes. Oh wait, am I projecting?  Maybe.

Good luck to all of those who enter – I’m looking forward to reading the recaps while eating my entry that I had to withdraw because of this weekend’s trip.

Super Simple Better For You Blue Cheese Dip

I'm  not really a football fan, but I do like watching the playoffs. For some reason unbeknownst to me, I feel the need to eat "traditional" foods while watching football - wings, blue cheese dip, hot dogs, and bad pizza.  Before you freak out, keep reading - I have not abandoned my vegetarian ways.

A few weekends ago, Matt and I (ok really just me) made Asian-inspired hot dogs (really veggie dogs) that were, let's be honest, a total ripoff of Asia Dog.  [If you live in NYC and haven't had an Asia Dog, then you obviously haven't been to two of my favorite places (the Brooklyn Flea and The Bell House) and you need to get yourself to one of them immediately.  They are insanely delicious and light years beyond the average dog.]

Pear, Pomegranate, and Pistachio Salad

It seems that January is the month of eating well and detox, at least according to my friends and a bunch of food publications.  I guess after all the sweets and booze of December’s holiday parties, we feel the need to negate the damage with healthy foods, and salad is usually the first thing that comes to mind.
