Watch me on Jeopardy! on Friday October 30

This has nothing to do with food, but how could I not tell you all about this?

At the end of September, I went out to LA to be on the game show Jeopardy! It will air tomorrow - Friday, October 30.

For those of you in the NYC area, it's on at 7 pm on channel 7 and again on WLNY 55 at 9:30 pm. For the rest of you, click here for your local listings. Also, click here for my hometown shout out (here's the permanent link - the first one will have different people on it next week).

I can't say anything about how I did - If I do, Alex will come after me.

The Brooklyn Chocolate Experiment

The guys who brought us the Brooklyn Beer Experiment (which I entered) and the Brooklyn Cheese Experiment (which I missed because I was on my honeymoon) are back with the next installment in the wonderful Brooklyn Food Experiment series – The Brooklyn Chocolate Experiment!

The categories for this one have been expanded – food has been split up into sweet and savory – and, of course, I have already secured my spot in the sweet category. [I have an idea of what I’m going to make, but it needs some testing over the coming weeks.] There’s an impressive lineup of judges, and as in previous experiments, there will be awards selected both by the panel of judges and the audience.

The Brooklyn Chocolate Experiment
is on Sunday November 15 from 1 pm - 5 pm at The Bell House in Brooklyn. The previous two experiments sold out, so make sure to get your tickets in advance and to get there on time.

To my NYC readers
please come and support me! Your $20 ticket gets you lots of great food and excellent homebrews and an added bonus is that a portion of the proceeds will go to ovarian cancer research. You can get tickets here or from the box office at The Bell House.

Happy Diwali!

I know this is a belated sentiment, but better late than never, right? [I have an excuse - I made this cake Saturday evening and didn't get back to my computer until this evening.]

It's a tiny square cake - serves 8 - and, as you can probably tell, it's my signature pistachio-cardamom cake with rosewater frosting. This petite version has dried rosebuds circling the border and ground Turkish pistachios mixed with gold luster dust in the center.

Two great food events today!

A little last minute, but better late than never!

First up is Fierce and Sweet, the 1st Annual Brooklyn Bake Off to Benefit New York Cares. Lots of great contenders and guest judges, and it's all for a great cause. It's today from 1 pm - 4 pm at the East River Bar in Williamsburg. Tickets are $20, which gets you lots of sweets and a sense of satisfaction for donating to a good cause. [I was supposed to participate but a dear friend of mine is in town this weekend from London, so I didn't have the heart to be in the kitchen for the better part of the evening when I don't get to see her very often.]

The second event is the NYC VegFest - the website isn't all that informative, but it does tell me that Masta Killa of the Wu-Tang Clan is speaking at 3 pm. WHAT? That's what I thought too, so to find out, get yourself over to Tompkins Square Park in the East Village.

OK, that's it from me for now. I've got lots of great posts in the works, so stay tuned!
