Big News!

I try not to delve too much into my personal life on here, but it’s pretty much impossible to avoid all talk of it. After all, it’s what happens in our lives that inspires our cooking, be it a family member's birthday, a yearning to recreate a beloved sandwich from a city you used to live in, a craving for something comforting when you're sick, or a special dinner for someone you love.

I know I’ve been scarce on here as of late, but it’s because there has been so much going on this past month. As I had mentioned in a previous post, my brother got married in Baltimore a few weeks ago. My brother and sister-in-law put in a lot of work in a short period of time and it all paid off – the wedding was beautiful and everyone had so much fun.

OK, obviously my brother’s wedding can’t be keeping me so busy. So what has, you ask? Well, it turns out that I’m next – Matt proposed a few weeks ago and now I am completely entrenched in the wild world of NYC wedding planning!

Between the job and the commuting and event planning, I haven’t set foot in the kitchen. I really do miss cooking but right now I have too many other things to do to feel guilty about not posting on here regularly. Once I get a few things set (namely, a location for our wedding), I think I’ll be able to relax a bit more and get back into the kitchen. I do, however, still have a few old things that I never got around to posting, so don’t think that I’m abandoning you just yet. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some of them up in a timely manner (i.e., not two weeks from now).

Until then, keep checking back, and keep your fingers crossed that I don’t freak out at how much a custom flavor wedding cake costs and then insist I bake my own (I was seriously considering it!).

Congratulations! It couldn't happen to a nicer couple.

I'm totally looking forward to hearing about your wedding cake search and I wouldn't be at all surprised if you ended up making your own. (Even though that sounds like a crazy stressful thing to do to yourself when you're in the midst of a wedding!)

Hi Roopa,
This is my first post. I love your recipes, and I've noticed that you have been showing a lot of pictures of NY bridges. Did you know the River Cafe does weddings? That's where I got married, and everyone sat outside for the ceremony, and we said our vows with the gorgeous Brooklyn Bridge as a backdrop. Just an idea...

Congratulations!

I got married three weeks ago and baked my own wedding cake, best decision I ever made. Maybe except for all the chocolate and icing sugar covering the whole place just hours before we had to leave. But it tasted and looked just like I wanted it. If you feel like it: do it!

I think you should make your own cake - the ones you've posted here are GORGEOUS and I'm sure they are delicious, too :)

This is my first time on your blog but I really like it. It's great that we are both ABCDs living in Manhattan with food blogs focused on sweets and veg food (I do eat fish and fowl but was true veg for 11 years). I recently moved to NYC and am looking to get more plugged into the food blogger world. Would love to be in touch and Mazel tov on your engagement!
